Loftleidir signs with Air Niugini
Loftleidir Icelandic has leased a Boeing 767-300ER to Air Niugini of Papua New Guinea. The aircraft was leased to Loftleidir by BAE Systems on behalf of the Presidential Flight of Abu Dhabi. The aircraft is configured in a three-class, 196-seat layout and is powered with General Electric CF6-80 engines. Under the lease Loftleidir Icelandic will provide full maintenance for the aircraft for Air Niugini, which currently also leases a 757-200 and 767-300ER from Loftleidir Icelandic. During the negotiation for the additional B767-300ER the two other contracts were extended.
Guðni Hreinsson Managing Director Loftleidir Icelandic "This establishes the trend we did foresee as early as late year 2008 that increased demand for both dry and wet lease was evident. Airlines clearly see the advantages of the options we offer when they need to alter their fleet composition temporarily but are unwilling to expose themselves to long-term commitments. Our determined efforts and hard work on building our business relationship with Air Niugini over the past years has earned us a reputation in a new corner of the world where we are regarded as a trustworthy and reliable partner for the longer term."
