Loftleidir Icelandic expands cooperation with Air Niugini
Loftleidir Icelandic the leasing and trading company of Icelandair Group has introduced a B737 700 and two B737 800 aircraft to the fleet. The new generation aircraft are placed with Air Niugini under an Aircraft Maintenance lease arrangement. Loftleidir Icelandic also leases two B767 300ER to Air Niugini on longterm AM leases. In addition to this a 757 200 is currently on a three month wet lease with Air Niugini. The cooperation between the companies provides Air Niugini with complete maintenance coverage for the contracted aircraft.
Air Niugini has ambitiously refurbished its fleet with new seats and IFE systems in recent years and Loftleidir has been responsible for the refurbishment work. In January 2014 a B737-800 underwent refurbishment in Guangzhou China with Gameco.
In October 2013 a delegation from Loftleidir Icelandic participated in the 40th anniversary of Air Niugini in Port Moresby. At the official reception Loftleidir Icelandic CEO Gudni Hreinsson addressed guests and fellow colleagues of the aviation industry: “We have come here to celebrate the 40 year history of Air Niugini. Loftleidir Icelandic has now been a part of that history for seven years. We are proud of that and especially if you take into account that you can’t get very much further away from Iceland. We see similarity between our two nations. Both Islands depend heavily on air transportation. So here in Papua we have gotten the possibility to provide our expertise to our aviation collogues. This has been maintenance and engineering services but has also included pilot and cabin crew training. We have been able to use our internal knowledge from across the Icelandair Group which we base on more than 75 years of history. Loftleidir Icelandic is proud to be a supplier to Air Niugini.”
