Loftleidir Icelandic signs an agreement with British Midland Airways
Loftleidir Icelandic, a subsidiary of FL Group, has signed a 6 months Wet Lease Agreement with the UK carrier British Midland Airways for one Boeing 757 aircraft.
The base of the operation will be Manchester Airport, UK with the first flight departing Manchester en route for Washington Dulles on May 13th. The agreement includes the lease of one Boeing 757 aircraft, flight crew, maintenance and insurance.
Loftleidir Icelandic currently manages wet leases of six Boeing 757 and three Boeing 767 operated under Icelandair´s AOC for customers in North- and South America, The Middle East and Europe.
Loftleidir Icelandic Managing Director Sigthor Einarsson says: "We are very proud of being chosen by BMI to operate one of their major transatlantic routes on our B757 and I'm certain we can draw from Icelandair´s good reputation and experience of operating transatlantic flights going all the way back to 1948."
British Midland Airways was founded in 1938 and is the UK´s second largest scheduled services airline with a fleet of 41 jet aircraft and operating over 2000 flights a week and carrying more then10,5 million passengers in 2004. The airline, which is owned by Lufthansa, SAS and BBW, is a member of The Star Alliance.
